Our
Wisconsin Adventure!
Our
latest and perhaps greatest journey took us
to the great state of Wisconsin.
Madison,
Wisconsin is a loooong way from home and we started off wondering
how we had all been talked into thinking it was a good idea to
cram 28 dogs and six people into two R.V.s and travel about eighteen
hours through rain and hail and dead of night to play a game we
can play in our own back yards! I think we had a weak moment back
when Springloaded broke a world record at our Tourney in Vermont
and we all sat around and celebrated. Eighteen hours sounds reasonable
after five or six beers.
Well,
we aren't called "Trailblazers" for nothing!
Here are some
of the highlights from the Wisconsin trip:
How
far is Wisconsin, anyway? Where the heck IS Wisconsin? Anyone
got an atlas? Gail, did you print out the directions? Do we know
where we're going? Think we can make it to Rochester, NY tonight?
Where the heck are we anyway? Are you sure you're only going 70
miles an hour? Are we there yet?
Do
they give a stupid test to the rest stop employees? Ever heard
of a Dunkin Donuts that runs out of coffee? Niagara Falls!! If
we were going to Ontario we'd almost be there...11 hours away
is starting to sound close by...Are we there yet?
Albany, Syracuse,
Rochester... Did you see the big plastic Buffaloes? I sense a
thong shot opportunity. Erie, Pennsylvania! I didn't know we were
going to Pennsylvania. Did you get a picture of that sign, Jilly?
Can any of you name all the State capitals?
Ohio?
Gosh, I wish I had a map. Cleveland, Toledo...Indiana! Indiana
want me, Lord I can't go back there, Corn, Is that all they grow
out here? It's getting awfully dark. Can you say Lightening? Eeeeks,
can you say hail?...How about tornado warnings? Are we there yet?
Oh look, more corn. Gail's R.V. looks like a golf ball...all dimples!
Illinois...more
rain, oh yeah, and traffic, merging, thronging, screeching traffic.
Is that the Sears Tower? Oh look , the Sears tower. Has everyone
seen enough of the Sears Tower? Two hours and I can still see
the Sears Tower. Chicago traffic sucks. Are we there yet?
Construction
and corn. Corn and construction. Are we there yet?
Dane County
Fair, Madison, Wisconsin...we made it! Hook ups! Hook ups are
good. Fair food...cotton candy, funnel cakes, fudge, smoothies,
and cream puffs! Wanna go on the Yo-yo? I think I'm gonna puke.
Dammit, I'm gonna win something. What did you win? A fish...Ten
bucks and all you won was a fish? Well...it's a cute fish.
Could
they have parked us farther away from the racing? Don't complain,
we have hook-ups! The venue is fantastic, air-conditioned with
plenty of matted run back, lights that work and some kind of soul
scheduled racing so we can leave fairly early on Sunday. Leave?
We just got here!
Did Springloaded
break the world record... AGAIN!? And again and once more for
good luck! Holy Mackerel!!!
We just ran
a 16.36!! Wooooowooooo!
Many thanks
to all who came and helped us so far from home. Ellen from Fur
Fun was invaluable as were Flyball Joe and Jillian. We wouldn't
have had nearly as good a time without you. Thanks and thanks
again! Special thanks also to Lee, Angie, Ashly, Levi, Craig,
Howdie and Jake from Springloaded, down to earth and smiling in
spite of broken trucks and late nights with no sleep.
On
a sad note, we lost and original Trailblazer member over the weekend.
Brigid will be waiting for us at "the bridge". Her happy
bark and unending enthusiasm will be missed, Condolences to Eileen
and Ray.
So, where
do we go from here? Well, we don't plan on going any slower that's
for sure. Binbrook and Rockton anyone?
