“Ernie” (as he was named by my 3 year old daughter) was born at 7:56 p.m. on February 6, 2007. He was the second of eight puppies born to my border collie, Bitter. Knowing I wanted a little boy, he grabbed my heart right from the start. He was the smallest of the four boys and during his first week he and his sister “Barbie” (yes, she named this one too) received special alone time with mommy because they both were so tiny. However, due to Bitter’s great mothering instinct and her ability to keep eight hungry puppies fed, all the puppies started to thrive. During the next eight weeks it seemed as if most of my time spent in the whelping pen was spent with “Ernie”. From his speckled nose to the little white spot on his left hip he had my heart - hook line and sinker! He is currently enjoying puppyhood by tugging, playing with his human sister, Hunter or obsessively kissing mommy every chance he gets. I am looking forward to his first birthday and watching all of the puppies hit the flyball floor. Seeing three of his litter mates also remained on the team, it will be a very happy day indeed.
